Kuba Pwoom Mask

This Kuba Pwoom mask was used in the men's socities of the Kuba people in Central and Northern regions of Kuba. The main characteristics of the mask are the protruding eyes and forehead. The mask has polychrome natural pigment paint that draws geometric and triangular designs across the face. It has a raffia coiffure with cowerie shells. The mask was used in ceremonial dances for funerals, boys' initiations, entertainment and for social control.
